About the Council

Duties & Powers

The Board of Review is an appointed body responsible for ensuring the fair and accurate assessment of property within the city. The Board reviews property assessments, hears appeals from taxpayers, and makes adjustments as appropriate in accordance with state law and assessment standards.

Members of the Board of Review are appointed by the City Council and serve designated terms. The Board holds public meetings to consider appeals and hear taxpayer testimony, providing a transparent process for addressing assessment concerns. Through careful review and impartial decision-making, the Board of Review helps maintain equity and confidence in the city’s property tax system.

Terms

Board of Review members are appointed by the Mayor for 3 year terms. If interested in being on the board please contact City Hall or the Mayor. Members shall be registered electors of the city.

Meetings

Dates, Times, & Locations

The Board of Review meets three times per year and their principal duty is to hear disputes of tax assessments.
